Walkthrough Part 1 Pokemon Amethyst: The Adventure Begins

Pokemon Amethyst Walkthrough Part 1: The Adventure Begins

Introduction

  • Like any Pokemon game, you'll start by meeting the Professor, naming your character, and naming your rival (I named mine Aiden).
  • Once that's done, you'll find yourself in your bedroom.

Feature Setup

Right as you start the game, you'll be asked about optional features. You can choose Yes or No depending on how you want to customize your experience.

 If You Choose "Yes"

Several options will appear. Here's what each one means:

Game Mode

  • Standard Mode : The default experience, exactly as intended.
  • Casual Mode  : A more relaxed playthrough. You'll get handy items right from the start, like the Exp. Share.
  • Hard Mode : Buckle up. All bosses are tougher and carry held items. There's also a level cap to keep you from overleveling.

Tutorial

  • Want a tutorial on battling and catching Pokémon? Hit Yes if you're new to the game.

Starter Selection

  • Choose which generation your starter comes from. Options include Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, or Shuffle (randomized from all Gen 1–8 starters).

Level Caps

  • Soft You can grind freely, but if your Pokémon is way overleveled compared to your badge count, it might start disobeying you.
  • Hard Strict cap enforced. You can't level past the limit until you beat the next Gym. Keeps fights fair and balanced.

Quick Start

  • Skips the early story so you jump straight into getting your first Pokémon, great for returning players who don't want to sit through the prologue again. Just note that whatever gets skipped won't be recapped later.

 If You Choose "No"

  • The game runs on default settings. Honestly, if this is your first time playing, just go with No — it keeps things simple.

Game Modifiers

  • Head over to any PC and you'll find some extra options, though for a new save file they're all locked. Unlocking them requires things like becoming Champion, completing the Pokédex, beating all Gyms, defeating every Trainer, and more. There's also a password input if you have a code. For new players, just ignore this for now.

For this walkthrough, we'll be playing on default settings no special features turned on.

 The Adventure Begins

  • As you head downstairs, your mom stops you. She says your Rival is looking for you. Turns out, he's got big news - Champion Selene is visiting Anthra Town today! She'll be doing field research alongside Professor Hawthorne. After the conversation, head outside.

 Anthra Town

  • Before heading out, grab the Potion hidden behind the mailbox to the right of your house. Then head right toward Route 17.

Route 17

  • Here you'll run into your Rival, Champion Selene, and Professor Hawthorne. At first, the Professor tries to shoo you both away since they're in the middle of research. But your Rival pushes back, explaining he just wants Selene's autograph. Selene, charmed by that, offers you both a starter Pokémon instead.
  • Professor Hawthorne isn't exactly thrilled about it — he thinks you're both too young to go off adventuring. After a bit of back-and-forth though, both he and Selene come around. You can pick a starter, but only if you get permission from your moms first. Head back to Anthra Town.

 Anthra Town

  • Talk to your mom. She's okay with you leaving, but only on one condition — you and your Rival have to look out for each other. The world out there can be a dangerous place, after all. She'll hand you the Running Shoes and Town Map. Now head back to Route 17.

 Route 17

  • Talk to Professor Hawthorne to choose one of three starter Pokémon (randomly pulled from the combined Gen 1–8 starter pool). Your Rival won't be picking — he already has a partner, an Eevee he brought from home.
  • Once you've got your starter, the Professor asks you to meet him at his lab in Olenic Town and heads off ahead of you. Now it's just the three of you. Selene suggests a quick battle to help you get comfortable with your new partner. After the fight, she takes her leave. Your next destination is Olenic Town, head back through Anthra Town and go left onto Route 1.

 Route 1

  • Work your way through Route 1 and you'll find an Antidote along the path. If you follow the route all the way to the western edge, you'll hit a beach. There's a sand mound there — pressing A on it will trigger a wild Sandygast encounter. Skip it for now though, since you don't have any Poké Balls yet.
  • Head back to the middle of Route 1 and go south. You'll arrive at Olenic Town.

 Olenic Town

  • Go straight to Professor Hawthorne's lab. He'll officially welcome you as a Trainer and hand over your Pokédex and 10 Poké Balls.
  • With that sorted, backtrack through Route 1 to Anthra Town. The truck that was blocking the north path before? It's gone now. Head north to reach Route 2.

Route 2

  • Head north and you'll come across a gate. Inside, talk to the Bug Trainer he'll give you an Antidote. Exit the gate on the other side and you'll enter Varisi Forest.

Varisi Forest

  • Take your time exploring this forest, there are several useful items scattered around, including Poké Balls, Antidotes, and Tiny Mushrooms. Watch your step though, because some of those Poké Balls on the ground are actually wild Foongus in disguise.
  • Keep exploring until you find a gate on the south side. It leads back to a different section of Route 2, where you can pick up TM83 Infestation.
  • Continue through the forest until you find the gate on the north side, which connects to the section of Route 2 leading directly into Rhodanzy City.

Route 2 > Rhodanzy City

  • You'll bump into your Rival here, he's busy catching Pokémon. Chat with him and he'll ask for 5 Poké Balls. Say Yes to hand them over and he'll give you something in return.
  • After that, keep heading north and you'll walk right into Rhodanzy City.

Rhodanzy City

There's a handful of things to do around town before hitting the Gym:

  • Item Lax Incense: Follow the path to the right along the fence near the small lake. Squeeze through the narrow gap in the tree line and at the dead end you'll find a Poké Ball containing a Lax Incense.
  • Old Rod: Find the building called the Rhodanzy Fishing Committee, it's the one with the blue roof. Talk to the old fisherman inside and he'll give you the Old Rod.
  • Soda Pop: Weave through the fences near the grassy area around the Training School to find a hidden Soda Pop.
  • School Quiz: Head into Rhodanzy City Training School, turn left, and find the classroom. Talk to the quiz-loving boy inside. He'll give you a reward, but the answer you need depends on your starter's type: Grass-type starter > answer Wate, Fire-type starter > answer Grass and Water-type starter > answer Fire.
  • Move Tutor: Also inside the Training School, there's a scientist-looking Move Tutor. He can teach you Terrain moves, but only after you've beaten the local Gym.

 Rhodanzy City Gym

Time for your first badge. The Gym Leader here is Terrence, a Terrain-type specialist. His team on Default mode:

  • Grookey lv 11
  • Skiddo lv 13

Beat Terrence and you'll earn the Terrain Badge along with TM05 Terrain Pulse. He'll also point you back to the Training School — the Move Tutor is now ready to teach you various Terrain moves (Grassy Terrain, Misty Terrain, Electric Terrain, and Psychic Terrain), each costing 5 PokéChips.

With everything wrapped up in Rhodanzy City, your next stop is Ferrox Village. From the Pokémon Center, head east onto Route 3.
